ATTRACTION AREA

Things to do in Chalong

Chalong is a sprawling area in the south of Phuket Island with an increasing number of attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy and is only 20 minutes away from the most popular beaches on the island. Here we highlight some of the things to do in the area that will not only entertain but also allow guests to experience genuine local culture.

Beaches

There are many beaches in the south of Phuket within 20 minutes drive of Villa Zolitude that range from tourist packed to peaceful and serene. Laem Ka Beach is an undiscovered paradise at the end of a large coconut grove in Rawai, Ya Nui is a small sandy cove with a rustic beach bar away from the crowds, Nai Harn Beach is extremely scenic and popular with families and romantics whereas Patong is the liveliest beach in Phuket packed with loungers and sun worshipers. Kata and Karon are also favourites for families with plenty of amenities nearby.

Wat Chalong & Big Buddha

These two revered Buddhist temples attract pilgrims from Phuket and beyond to make merit and pay respect to Lord Buddha. The grounds of Wat Chalong contain several impressive glittering temples and house the statues of several famous monks adorned in gold leaf. Big Buddha is a much newer temple and has made its fame for being the largest white marble statue of Buddha in the world towering 45m high. The views from Big Buddha are breathtaking spanning from the west to the east coast.

Boat Trips

Chalong Bay has a thriving pier, a popular launch pad for boats departing to the many dazzling islands around Phuket. Enjoy a day of snorkelling, diving, swimming and sightseeing travelling by traditional long-tail boat or speed boat to destination such as Coral Island and Koh Lon.

Seafood Dining

Chalong Bay is famous for its local seafood restaurants serving the freshest local fish, crab, lobster and much more. The laid back ambiance of Kan Eang 2 is a favourite for locals situated on the seafront, while its sister restaurant Kan Eang @pier has a more upmarket setting.

Chalong Bay Rum

Visit the distillery of Chalong Bay Rum and enjoy an organised tour of the production facilities and learn how to make the perfect Chalong Bay Rum mojito cocktail. This high standard rum is produced using the best Thai sugar cane and the centuries old French distillation methods and at the end of the tour you can enjoy a complimentary drink. The distillery also runs evening cocktail making courses for extra fun.

Local Markets

Chalong is a popular residential area with a good choice of supermarkets and convenience stores, yet a highlight of this area is the abundance of local farmers markets that sell everything from fresh produce and local delicacies to fashions and home ware. Stroll around the lively stalls, engage with friendly vendors and pick up a tasty Thai snack such as a roti (pancake). During the weekend, there is a huge Weekend Market 10 minutes away where locals flock in the evening to browse some weird and wonderful delights!

Golfing

Within minutes from the resort is a nine-hole golf course with flood lights for night time play, the only night golf course on the island. There are also several 18-hole golf courses just 15 minutes away with stunning courses lined with swaying palm trees, lakes and lush rolling greens with challenging holes suitable for all levels.

Xtrem Adventures

Nestled within the jungles of Chalong is a thrilling adventure park with zip lines, suspended bridges, walkways and climbs were visitors can enjoy fun challenges with full safety equipment and training provided.
